On the intranet, everyone can post messages on the timelines in groups. When you want to broadcast and highlight news, this can be done via a news article. The news can be prominently displayed on the homepage, and the news articles must be created in the CMS by an editor.

News segments
It is possible to distinguish between types of 'news' articles. Under the main folder News you can create subfolders (=segments). This can be useful when you want to show a news segment on a separate page or in a separate widget, apart from other news articles.
Example:
You want a separate section for Works Council (OR) news. For this, we create a news segment and all OR news articles are created in this subfolder. Then we have the choice to show OR news either in the news template on the homepage or not, and we have the option to create a separate news widget where only OR news is displayed.
Creating segment(s)
- Go to the overview of all news articles: > Embrace applications > Portals > Content > News.
- Click on Segments in the left column.
- Click the blue button with the plus icon to create a segment.
- Fill in the fields in the right column:
- Name of the segment
- Title of the segment (can be the same as the name)
- Content type: News - Click Save.
The segment appears under the 'News' folder in the left column.
Setting segment(s) in news template
When using segments, you have the choice whether to display the segment in the news template on the homepage.
- Go to > Portals > Suite portals > General dashboard > Home.
- Click on the news template.
- Select one or more content segments to be displayed in the block in the right column under Content segments.
- Click Save.
- Publish the Portal builder.
Displaying segment(s) in a news widget
When using segments, you can create a news widget to display one or more segments.
- Go to Embrace applications in the left sidebar.
- Click on Portals.
- Click on Widgets in the left sidebar.
- Click the blue button with the plus icon to create a new widget. You will enter a widget store with all widgets that Embrace offers.
- Choose the News overview widget.
- Choose Install.
- Click on the created News overview widget to edit it. Choose edit via the pencil icon at the top right of the screen or via the three dots.
- In the right column you can configure the widget as desired. In the first tab
- Go to the second tab with the i-icon.
- Select one or more segments to be displayed in the widget under Content segments.
- Click Apply.
This creates the widget and makes it available in the widget store for end users, so they can place the widget on their homepage themselves. If you want to pin the widget on the homepage, the widget must be created via > Portals > Suite portals > General dashboard > Home. This change in the Portal Builder must be saved and published.
Customising the news template
We offer various ways to display the news on the dashboard.
- Go to Embrace applications in the left sidebar.
- Click on Portals.
- Select the portal where you want to customise the news template. In most cases, this is called "General Dashboard".
- Select the widget news hero.
- A selection menu appears on the right. Under the heading variant you can choose the desired news template

FAQ about news
-
A created news article is not visible on the intranet
Some checks we can do: is the article published? Are you using news segments and is the article created under the correct segment? Is the segment correctly set in the news template or in the news widget?

Related blocks on the right side
Related blocks on the right side such as knowledge holders, links and attachments belong to Knowledge articles. For News articles, it is possible to set summary, authors and tags in the news article. You can build the article from, among others, text and attachment blocks. This way you can add hyperlinks and documents to the news article.
