Setting the news variant

There are 4 variants for displaying news. There is an option to show a header image with the news items in a list, and there are three different options to display the news items in blocks, where the images of news items are shown.

Steps:

  • Go to the 'Embrace Applications' button at the top of the left sidebar.
  • Choose 'Portals'.
  • Select 'General Dashboard' in the large column in the middle.
  • In the left column, you see the navigation structure. Make sure you are on 'Home'.
  • Click on the area where the news is located in the large screen (middle column).
  • Then click again in that area to select the 'Newshero' widget.
  • On the right side, a column appears with settings for the Newshero widget.
    • Content segments
      This is only relevant when multiple news segments are set up. Here you can determine which news segments should be shown in the news variant.
    • Variant
      Set the desired news variant.
    • Overview page
      If you want to show a news overview button in your news variant, set the overview page to point to 'News'. If you do not want this, leave this field empty.
    • Number of news items
      Set the desired number of news items you want to display in the news variant.
    • News social 
      Setting only available for news variants: Wide Banners, Banners and Banners with summary.
       
      • Show comments (Social)
        With this checkbox, you set that a comment icon is shown in the news banner when there are comments on a news item.
      • Show emoji (Social)
        With this checkbox, you set that an emoji icon is shown in the news banner when there are emoji reactions on a news item.
    • Background image
      Setting only available for news variant: List on background. Set a desired header image. The image is automatically cropped, with the focus in the centre.
  • Choose 'Save' at the bottom right of the screen to save the change.
  • Choose 'Publish' to publish the portal.
  • Go back to 'Social' via the 'Embrace Applications' button at the top of the left sidebar. Refresh the page to view the result.

 

 

Hiding a portal

If you only want to hide a portal from end users, you can adjust the permissions. Keep in mind that users with the Portal Manager role will always see the portal, even if you change the permissions.

  1. Go to Portals.
  2. Click the three dots (⋯) next to the portal name.
  3. Select Set permissions.
  4. Update the may view and has access permissions, for example by setting them to the same value as may edit.

If you want to hide the portal completely from the front end, you can change the route.

  1. Go to Portals.
  2. Click the three dots (⋯) next to the portal name.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Adjust the Route. Intranet dashboards always use a route starting with /social/. By changing it to something like /HIDDEN/social/, the portal becomes invisible for everyone, including yourself. Make sure the route always starts with a slash.
